REIMEIKAN
Aikido
is a Japanese martial art, which was developed by
Morihei Ueshiba (1889-1969)
mainly with a base in daitô-ryu jujutsu. The art is based on neutralizing
attacks by using throwing and locking techniques. One person takes the role of
an attacker while the other performs the relevant technique. The most visible
contrast between aikido and other martial arts is that aikido does not contain
any techniques for attacking. Aikido is only based on utilising the power in
an attack to perform a throw or a locking technique.
